4 facts about the Terracotta Warriors

4 facts about the Terracotta Warriors

This month our first day trip to the highly anticipated Terracotta Warriors exhibition is coming up. But with several dates throughout the year, there’s still time to book to see this year’s landmark exhibition!

It will showcase the spectacular warriors from the tomb of China’s First Emperor, shedding light on the formative years of the Chinese nation.

Here’s 4 facts you might not know about the exhibition…

Over 180 artefacts will be on display at the World Museum, Liverpool

The unprecedented exhibition will feature more than 180 artefacts from museums across Shaanxi Province in north-west China, many of which have never been on show in the UK before.

Visitors will come face-to-face with some extraordinary Terracotta Warriors and other exquisite treasures – objects which help us to understand more about everyday life in the country more than two thousand years ago.

The exhibition marks 10 years since Liverpool was European Capital of Culture

The exhibition will help to celebrate the 10 year anniversary since Liverpool was the European Capital of Culture. All year, they are set to mark it with a number of other cultural events.

Over 8,000 life-sized Terracotta Warriors have been uncovered since 1974

For over 2,000 years, an underground army of life-sized terracotta warriors secretly guarded the tomb of China’s First Emperor until a chance discovery in 1974.

The Terracotta Army represents one of the most significant archaeological excavations of the 20th century.

They were last brought to the UK in 2007/8

You may remember 10 years ago when a collection was displayed at the British Museum in London. They enjoyed thousands of visitors – some of the highest figures ever recorded at the museum!

It’s the first time since the 1980s in Edinburgh where they’ve been displayed in a museum outside of London.

Woods Tours have several day trips from local pick-up points in Leicester to China's First Emperor and the Terracotta Warriors at the World Museum, Liverpool, in 2018.
